The following settings are all valid for the bounce file type:
bounce file format = 'TEXT'
bounce file format = 'OE FOR MACINTOSH'
bounce file format = 'OE FOR WINDOWS'
bounce file format = 'OUTLOOK EXPRESS FOR MACINTOSH'
bounce file format = 'OUTLOOK EXPRESS FOR WINDOWS'
bounce file format = 'EUDORA'
bounce file format = 'SENDMAIL'
bounce file format = 'SPOOL'
bounce file format = 'MAIL SPOOL'
bounce file format = 'EIMS'
bounce file format = 'LETTERRIP'
If you are not sure of the format of your bounce file, then set this option to 'TEXT'.
Let's take a look at those options in a little more detail ...
bounce file format = 'TEXT'
Use this setting for any standard text file, including files that have been saved as text files from any standard mail client. Also, use this setting if you are not sure which setting to use.
Outlook Express Settings:
bounce file format = 'OE FOR MACINTOSH'
bounce file format = 'OE FOR WINDOWS'
You may optionally spell out "Outlook Express" if you wish;
thus, the following are also valid:
bounce file format = 'OUTLOOK EXPRESS FOR MACINTOSH'
bounce file format = 'OUTLOOK EXPRESS FOR WINDOWS'
Other Valid Options:
bounce file format = 'EUDORA' ! For Eudora mailboxes
bounce file format = 'SENDMAIL' ! For sendmail spool files
bounce file format = 'SPOOL' ! Any file in mail spool format
bounce file format = 'MAIL SPOOL' ! Same as "SPOOL"
Note: 'EUDORA', 'SENDMAIL', 'SPOOL', and 'MAIL SPOOL' are all equivalent, and may be used interchangeably. (They all refer to the same format.)
bounce file format = 'EIMS' ! For EIMS spool files
bounce file format = 'LETTERRIP' ! For LetterRip bounce digests
For example, suppose you are using Outlook Express on a Macintosh, and you are filtering all of your bounces into an OE mail folder. Then you would use the following setting:
bounce file format = 'outlook express for macintosh'
If you are saving your bounces to a Eudora mailbox (on either Macintosh or Windows), and will be processing the Eudora mailbox directly, then you would specify:
bounce file format = 'Eudora'
Of course, you still need to set your "BOUNCE FILE NAME" setting to point to the OE mail folder or Eudora mailbox in which you are storing your bounces; see the Outlook Express compatibility file for details on how to locate your Outlook Express v4.x mail folders.
Note that you may specify only one option at a time. Thus, if LetterRip users find that it would be convenient for them to be able to process LetterRip digests directly from Outlook Express (for example), then send me a note with that request. As with all other features, if there is even a reasonable level of user interest, I will be happy to provide support for it.
