Supporting New Servers
in MailBounce

Current Release: v6.0, May 2003

If your list server is not currently supported by MailBounce, and you would like to get it supported, then you will need to provide some information to Smart Mail Solutions, Inc., ...

Please send us the following information about your server:

  1. A copy of the subscribers file (also known as the "address file"), preferably as returned by e-mail. You can pare it down to just a few subscriber lines, and replace actual addresses with "user@domain.name", but if there is any ancillary info in the file, we need to see that.

  2. The exact syntax for subscribing and unsubscribing people via e-mail. These MUST BE the LIST OWNERS' commands -- not the subscribers' commands! We don't need or want any actual passwords, so use an obvious placeholder, like "password".

For example, suppose that your list server is a ListProc; following is the information that you would provide to us:

Item 1: Subscribers File

    user1@domain1.name M. S. Stern, Winnipeg, Canada
    user2@domain2.name Jaime Mora, Winnipeg, Canada
    user3@domain3.name Jonathan Davidson, Winnipeg, Canada
    user4@domain4.name Blair Cooper, Winnipeg, Canada
    user5@domain5.name Jason Miller, Winnipeg, Canada
    user6@domain6.name Darrell, Winnipeg, Canada
    user7@domain7.name Dave Gillies, Winnipeg, MB
user8@domain8.name Michel Durand, Winnipeg, Manitoba, Ca

Item 2: List Owner Commands

    [quiet] add <listname> <password> <address> <subscriber's name>

    [quiet] delete <listname> <password> <address>

(In the ListProc case, the "quiet" tag is optional, and will prevent the subscriber from being notified of the action.)

That's all we need. Please let us know if you have any questions. Also, be sure to check the current list of supported servers before sending us new server information; your list server might already be supported!
